Henry Chandlee Turner (born 1870) founded the Turner Construction Company in New York, NY, in 1902. The company grew rapidly getting the commission for Interborough Rapid Transit staircases in New York (1902) and building manufacturing and commerical facilities for major East Coast corporations; it became a joint stock corporation in 1907. In 1921, Turner erected its first office high-rise, the Genesee Building, in Buffalo, NY.

On the West Coast, Turner opened offices in Los Angeles, CA, (1964), San Francisco, CA, (1968), Seattle, WA, (1977), Portland, OR,(1980), San Jose, CA, (1987), and Oakland, CA, (2000). In 2006, Turner had 45 offices around the world, including one in Bellevue, WA.
