Relocation
Born in Victoria, BC, Canada, on 06/06/1867, he migrated to Portland, OR, with his family as a boy. Sutton attended public schools in OR in the late 1870s-1880s, and relocated to Berkeley, CA, to matriculate at the University of California c. 1890.
He worked in San Francisco, CA, from c. 1895-1910; he then retired from architecture at the age of approximately 57, when he resettled at a ranch in Hood River, OR. Undergoing a divorce from his wife in 1908, may have hastened his resettlement in OR. For whatever reason, he resumed practice of architecture in 1912 in Portland, with Harrison Allen Whitney (1877-1962). The two formed a prosperous alliance, which enabled the opening of a Tacoma, WA, branch office. Sutton supervised activities here.
He passed away in Tacoma of congestive heart failure at the age of 56.
Children
Albert Sutton's great grandson was the artist, John Sutton (d. 2007).
