During World War II, he moved back to San Francisco to work for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and after the war, he headed back to his business connections in Fresno. In 1953 he contracted Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He died in San Francisco, 08/06/1956, at the age of 65;
