Building History

The three-story Sill Building had a strongly Streamline Moderne character, with full-length, exterior hallways creating deep, linear shadows on the facade. The corner of building was curved, typical of this aesthetic. The Kimball and Stone Drug Store occupied the curve of its first floor, c. 1940. The brick exterior had very clean lines, with all ornamental elements shorn away. The prime visual interest was provided by the shadows of the exterior hallways. On 18th Street, Seilers and Tibbetts also operated stores.
