William J. Meyer was born in Bellingham, WA, in 1900. He spent time during his career in New York City during the mid-to-late 1920s, working for at least two prestigious firms, that of Warren and Wetmore and William Van Alen. Warren and Wetmore designed several buildings in Los Angeles, CA, and this may have been an impetus to move to that city by the early 1930s.

He resided at 230 Berkshire Avenue in what was Pasadena, CA, in 1955, but became the City of La Cañada Flintridge in 1976.
