Relocation

Joyce's family moved about a fair amount during his early years living in rented dwellings. Within a few months after Clayton R. Joyce's birth, his parents lived at 3254 15th Avenue South in in Seattle, WA's West Seattle neighborhood. The next year, the Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1936, (p. 832), indicated that they had another apartment in West Seattle at 5206 California Avenue, Apartment #3, Five years later, he lived with his parents, brother and paternal grandmother Ida Iverson Joyce (born c. 1876 in SD) in a rented dwelling at 3933 Sunnyside Avenue in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1940, p. 882.) The Joyces paid $55 per month for their dwelling, a higher rent than that paid by immediate neighbors.

In 1958, Clayton R. Joyce resided in an apartment building at 3727 15th Avenue NE Apartment #5. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1958, p. 782.) Joyce and his wife lived as newlyweds at 727 Alder Street in Seattle. He was a student at this time. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1959, p. 847.) Parents

His mother was Valborg Constance Anderson (born c. 1919 in SD-d. 04/03/1990 in King County, WA), a homemaker, and his father was Clayton Edward Joyce (born 07/16/1907 in Jamestown, ND-d. 03/21/1999 in King County, WA), a commercial airline pilot. They married in Turner County, SD, on 10/20/1932. According to his World War II draft registration card of 10/16/1940, Joyce was an employee of United Air Lines, whose headquarters was in Chicago, IL.
