Yudell was the Editor-in-Chief of Pomfret's student newspaper, the Pontefract, and was active on various student committees. He was also a member of the Hymn, Singing and Marching Society.

Robert Jonathan Yudell was born in Worcester, MA, in 1947. He attended the Pomfret School, then a male-only boarding school in Pomfret, CT, graduating in 1965.

He has lived in Malibu and Santa Monica, CA.

He wed the architectural colorist Tina Beebe (born c. 1948).
