J.R. Cahill founded this construction firm in 1911, with an initial focus on mining projects. He joined with his brother, Edward, in 1915, and they, thereafter, turned the focus to large-scale commercial and residential work.

The firm incorporated as Cahill Construction Company in 1923 during the building of the Huntington Hotel in San Francisco. The Cahills were part owners of the Huntington. It was known as the "Cahill Construction Company" through the end of the 1960s, at least.

In 2020, Cahill Contractors, Incorporated, LLC, had its main office at 425 California Street, Suite #2200, San Francisco, CA, 94104-2277.
