Overview

A team of local San Francisco architects--Paul Ryan, John Michael Lee, and Angus McSweeney--worked with renowned outside consultants including Italian civil engineer Pier Luigi Nervi and the Italo-American Pietro Belluschi. Construction began in 1967 and the cathedral dedicated four year later in 1971.
