In 1941, B. Dudley Stuart and Robert L. Durham formed a partnership in Seattle, WA; Durham, fresh out of college, worked for Stuart first, and then became a partner in 1941. During World War II, between 1943 and 1945, noted Seattle architect Paul Hayden Kirk (1914-1995) worked with Stuart and Durham. Kirk left this firm after c. 1945 to form a partnership with James Chiarelli (1908-1990).
Stuart and Durham operated until 1951, when Durham opened his own office, Robert L. Durham and Associates.
