Building Notes

The Unit Masonry Association bestowed a Second Place Award in the Non-Residential Stone category, for this YMCA branch, c. 1954. It wrote of the design: "The desired design of the community branch Y.M.C.A. in the University District of Seattle involved the creation of a building lending community prestige. Wilkeson stone in 3 and 6-1/2-inch random ashlar pattern selected for the exterior walls is also featured as fireplace walls in the interior." (See Unit Masonry Association, Incorporated, Unit Masonry Idea Book, [Seattle: Unit Masonry Association, Incorporated, c. 1954], n.p.)
