Born in Waltham, MA, in 1908, John Greenway Richards moved to the Puget Sound region during his childhood. He attended Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA, and the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle. Richards passed away at the age of 77 in Pierce County, WA.


He married Gladys M. Stone Richards (1911-1995). She had been born in the State of TN, and lived a decade beyond her husband.
