In 03/1963, James Hussey was named to a seven-member Advisory Committee to the Northwest Craft Center to be operated at Seattle Center that summer. Born in Crookston, MN, James Hussey resided with his mother at 123 East 4th Street in Crookston according to the US Census of 1930. In that year, the dwelling had a value of $5,000, on the higher side of average fro this small town. The household included his mother, her older sister, Mary E. "Minnie" Walker, (born c. 1880 in English-speaking Canada), and his half-brother and brother. According to the Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1951,(p. 612), and the Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1953, (p. 659), James Hussey resided on RD 2, Box #412, Mercer Island, WA.

He and his wife, Dorothy, resided at 3929 East 41st Street in 1959.and 1960 (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1959, p. 777 and Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1960, p. 785.) He lived at this address until about 2002.

His mother was Sarah W. "Sadie" Walker (born 03/25/1875 in English-speaking Canada-d. 10/09/1946 in Polk County, MN), who had been widowed by 1930. She apparently came to the US early in her life, as she noted her date of immigration to have been 1883 on the 1940 US Census form. Her mother, Elisabeth Walker, (born c. 10/1836 in England), had also been widowed at a young age, forced to raise three children on her own. Elisabeth had had nine children in total, five of whom remained alive in 1900. In 1910, Sadie worked as an assistant in a physician's office in Crookston. helping to support her 73-year-old mother. Her sister, Minnie, also worked as a bank stenographer. James had a half-brother, Everett Walker Hussey, (born 01/06/1910-d. 05/08/1996 in Polk County, MN) and a brother, Robert Walter Hussey, (born 12/06/1916 in MN-d. 09/29/1996).

Biographical Notes

As noted on his World War II draft registration card, of 02/16/1942, Hussey was Caucasian, standing 5-feet, 9-inches tall, and weighing 133 pounds. His had blue eyes, brown hair, a light brown complexion. This card noted also that he had an appendicitis scar.
