"Actual groundwork has been started on the new site of the University of California, Southern Branch, it was announced yesterday. A group of workmen have started test drilling near Founders Rock on the site to determine the character for a bridge to span the canyon near the Rock. The bridge will serve to carry traffice from the entrance of the campus to the main group of buildings, which are to rise as a home for the university. H.J. Brunnier, structural engineer associated with [architect] Mr. Kelham, visited the university site yesterday and took samples of the strata at various depths for analysis in laying the plans for the bridge."
