Photograph by Steve Ringman, Seattle Times; "A peek through a small access hole reveals the 100-year-old ceiling of the landmark King Street Station and the metal ceiling below it...that is being removed. The original ornate 45-foot-high plaster was sealed off in 1965, when the false ceiling was added. The Seattle City Council on Monday [12/11/2006] approved buying the station from BNSF Railway for $1. The state and federal government have set aside $19 million for the station, and voters recently approved a property-tax levy that will give the city $10 million for the renovation."
