Bartlett was a merchant born and raised in Maine. He was known to have designed a built his own stone-faced general store in Port Townsend, WA, in 1880-1881 and likely built an earlier timber-frame store building by the late 1860s in Port Townsend, WA.

Charles C. Bartlett was born in Kennebunk, ME, and likely lived in MA by the late 1850s. (His son Francis was born on 04/24/1859 in MA, possibly in West Boylston.)

Charles and Mary Bartlett moved from MA to the Washington Territory by the late 1860s, at least. His name was listed as a merchant operating in Port Townsend, WA, in the Pacific Coast Directory, 1867.

He died in Los Angeles on 01/13/1893, but was buried in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Port Townsend.

His father was John H. Bartlett, Jr. (born c. 1793 in ME), who operated a farm in Kennebunk, ME, in 1850. His mother was Dolly Bartlett (born c. 1805 in ME). The Bartlett's Kennebunk farm had a value of $500 in 1850. He wed Mary E. Bartlett likely in the mid to late 1850s, in either ME or MA.

Children

He and Mary had one son, Francis Albert "Frank" Bartlett (born 04/20/1859 in West Boylston, MA-d. 06/18/1911 in Port Townsend, WA), who became a merchant in Port Townsend, WA.

Biographical Notes

His middle name may have been "Carroll" like that of his grandson, Charles Carroll Bartlett (1881-1949).
