Building History

The merchant Charles C. Bartlett (born 05/09/1837 in Kennebunk, ME-d. 01/13/1893 in Los Angeles, CA) and his wife Mary (born c. 1831 in Ireland-d. 01/18/1898 in Jefferson County, WA) operated this general store in Port Townsend, WA, before a second stone building was erected in 1881. This structure was likely wood-frame in character and probably built by Bartlett himself.
