The interior designer Eleanor Lochridge was born Eleanor Pitchlynn Adams in Washington, DC in 1888. Her family relocated to Long Beach, CA, by 1900, at least, and she resided here for the rest of her life. She began work as an interior designer by about 1940, when she was 52.

Her parents Charles Carroll Adams (born 12/13/1861 in Newbury, Maine-d. 02/17/1953 in Los Angeles County, CA) and Mary Juliet Adams (born 07/1860 in Washington, DC- d. 06/05/1944 in West Orange, NJ), were both born on the East Coast, but moved to Long Beach, CA, by at least 1900. In 1900, Eleanor lived with her parents, sister Ruth Adams (born c. 1893 in Washington, DC) and brother Charles C. Adams, Jr., (born c. 1898 in Washington, DC) on a farm near Long Beach.
Charles, Sr., was listed as a farmer by the 1900 US Census, possibly raising fruit trees.
