Lochridge switched his primary focus from being an architect to an civil engineer c. 1925. CA voter records of 1924 listed him as an architect, while those of 1926 categorized him as an engineer. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation California State Library; Sacramento, California; Great Register of Voters, 1924, 1926, accessed 02/22/2022.)

Lochridge's name was not listed as an architect or engineer in business classified sections of the Long Beach City Directory after World War II. (His wife Eleanor was listed as an interior designer up to 1965, at least.) It appears that he may have worked either part-time or periodically as an architect and/or engineer after 1945. The Long Beach, California, City Directory, 1959, (p. 421) listed Lochridge as an architect in 1959, but indicated that he was definitely retired by 1965. (See Long Beach, California, City Directory, 1965, p. 473.)

Relocation

Harvey Hayes Lochridge was born in Center Point, IA, in the east-central part of the state, on 09/21/1879. Platted in 1854, Center Point stood about 18 miles northwest of Cedar Rapids, and was an agricultural town from its beginning.

The Lochridges lived on either Summit or Franklin Streets in Center Point in 1880. Harvey was an infant at the time, but he shared the house with his parents, brother, Elbert E. Lochridge, his aunt, Mary A. King (born c. 1856 in KY), a milliner and dressmaker, and his grandmother, Phoebe D. King (born c. 1807 in NY). His parents and two sisters lived in Elkhorn, WI, in 1900, a town about 40 miles southwest of Milwaukee in Walworth County. Harvey operated his own architectural practice, while his sister Grace worked as a public school teacher. The Lochridges had relocated to 304 Orizaba Avenue in the Bluff Heights neighborhood of Long Beach when the US Census Bureau undertook its 1920 census. The household included Harvey and his wife, his two son Richard and Jack, and a housekeeper, Marjorie Allison (born c. 1878 in Canada). They rented the house in 1920 and continued to rent the same dwelling in 1930 and 1940, paying $60 per month in rent in 1930 and $50 in 1940. They likely moved from this residence when the last of their children left home c. 1945.
