By 1944, however, Simrell and his family had moved to San Mateo, CA, where they lived at 711 Costa Rica Street, where they stayed until at least 1946. (See Burlingame-San Mateo City Directory, 1944, p. 265, and San Mateo City Directory, 1946, p. 319.) He worked as an architect in San Francisco, according to the 1944 directory. Four years later, they relocated to Palo Alto, CA, where they lived at 1648 California Avenue, near Stanford University. (See Polk's Palo Alto City Directory, 1948, p. 394.)

He passed away in Santa Barbara, CA, at the age of 83.
