The artist immigrated to the US in 1912, moving, like many recent immigrants from east to west. He earned a living by painting various types of works, including architectural murals. His mural work was done in the states of NB, OR, and WA, before Petersen settled finally in Los Angeles, CA, in 1916.
Petersen lived to the age of 101.
