In 1910, Lola's mother Emma also was a school teacher. Lola and Gordie wed on 05/21/1914 in Hopkinsville, KY.

By 1930, Gordie Young served as the Assistant State School Superintendent in KY, while Lola no longer taught. After Lola's premature death from cancer at age 44 in 1932, Gordie remarried to Ruth Theobald Young (born 08/28/1892 in Louisville, KY-d. 09/23/1959 in Frankfort, KY).
