Personal

Murguia joined the Franciscan order in 1736, after he had left for Mexico. He became an ordained priest in 1744, and worked as a missionary in the Mexican City of Sierra Gorda, where he remained for 19 years. In 1768, he relocated to California, where founded and designed Mission Santa Clara.
