Adolf G. Syska was one of nine children of Johnann ‘Adolph’ Szyzska and Anna Carolina Petroll who left the contested region between Poland and Germany during the last quarter of the 19th century. According to a family website, Adolf was one of the first family members to emigrate to America, in about 1879. His parents and four of his siblings followed in 1885.
