As indicated by its original name, the United States Post Office and Court House in Los Angeles was designed primarily to house Federal court and post office facilities. The Ground and First floors were occupied by the Post Office Department (now Postal Service), the Second and Third floors by the U.S. District Court. Court-related agencies (such as the U.S. Attorney General's Office) shared the remaining floors with other Federal agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Communications Commission. Over the years the U. S. District Court has expanded to the point that it now occupies the space vacated by the post office in the mid-1960s. Numerous Federal agencies occupy offices on the upper floors, including the U.S. Court of Appeals."
