Firm Notes

This firm superceded the office of Morgan and Walls in Los Angeles, CA, on 04/11/1910. A notice in the Builder and Contractor stated: "The old established architectural firm of Morgan & Walls has received an additional member into the firm in the person of Octavius W. Morgan, son of the senior partner...the firm of Morgan, Walls & Morgan, after 04/10 will be at home in a suite of offices at 1112-1114-1116 W.P. Story Building, 6th & Broadway." (See "Morgan, Walls and Morgan Note," Builder and Contractor, 04/07/1910, p. 5.) Octavious W. Morgan, Jr., graduated from Stanford University in 01/1910, and took over as a partner in his father's firm about three months later. Morgan, Walls and Morgan remained in the Story Building until at least 1913, as that was its location when a biographical entry was done on Octavius Morgan in Who's Who on the Pacific Coast, 1913, (Los Angeles: Harper Publishing Company, 1913, p. 411.)

In 09/1918, the firm of Morgan, Walls and Morgan occupied Room #1124 in the Van Nuys Building, Los Angeles. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Registration State: California; Registration County: Los Angeles; Roll: 1530900; Draft Board: 17, accessed 12/12/2016.)

Although he had retired in 1910, Octavius Morgan's name was still listed in the firm's entry in the Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1921, (p. 1853).

The partnership was known as Morgan, Walls and Morgan through 11/1923. An article in the Los Angeles Times of 11/18/1923 still referred to the firm as "Morgan, Walls and Morgan." (See "Center for Shopping Is Established," Los Angeles Times, 11/18/1923, pt. V, p. 8.) After the death of Octavius Morgan (1850-1922), the firm became known as "Morgan, Walls and Clements, Architects" in about 12/1923. (See "Increased Demand for Business Space Tempts Builders," Los Angeles Times, 12/23/1923, vol. XLIII, p.1.) The changeover in name occurred between 11/18/1923 and 12/23/1923.

The Los Angeles City Directory, 1924, (p. 2450) still listed the firm as "Morgan, Walls and Morgan," perhaps based on information collected before 12/1923.
