McCarthy Building Companies, Incorporated, began in Ann Arbor, MI, as a lumber and contracting business founded by the Irish immigrant, Timothy McCarthy. The company remained family-owned until 2002, when it became employee-owned. In 2007, the firm had over 2,000 employees working in nine offices across the U.S., with a headquarters in Saint Louis, MO. West Coast office included those in San Francisco, CA, Sacramento, CA, Newport Beach, CA, and San Diego, CA.
In 2016, it was an independent subsidiary of the McCarthy Holdings Company.
