Firm Notes

This office began as an association of the SOM firm with that of Pietro Belluschi, who left Portland in 1951 to become Dean of the School of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Richard Ritz Ellison (1919-2002) was an important figure in this Portland office. The office did a great deal of work in the 1950s-1970s, and closed in 1990.

In 1957, SOM Portland had its office at 2040 SW Jefferson Street in Portland. (See Polk’s Portland [OR] City Directory, 1957, p. 134.)
