Omer Mithun (1918-1983) began a private practice with an architect named Wilson in Bellevue, WA, in 1949. This firm--originally known as Wilson-Mithun Architects--was headquartered in Bellevue, WA, until 1990, when it moved to Seattle, WA. The firm has specialized in sustainable design. According to former AIA Seattle Director, Marga Rose Hancock, Mithun's firm has changed names several times after Omer Mithun's death in 1983. While there have been many name changes, the firm's leadership has continued to consider Mithun's name integral to its values and identity. It has called itself "Mithun Associates, Architects," (c. 1984), "Mithun Bowman Emrich Group (c. 1984-1988)," "Mithun Partners, Incorporated," (c. 1988-1998), "Mithun Associates, Architects," and finally just "Mithun."

In 1988, the firm had its office address at 2000 112th Avenue NE, Bellevue, WA, 98004.

Partners of the firm in 1989 were: J. Donald Bowman, Thomas D. Emrich, Fred Brown, Don A.R. Dorman, Vincent Ferrese, Harry Andresen, and William Kreagher.
