Kirtland Kelsey Cutter, John C. Poetz Jr.
Active 08/1889-1894
Firm Notes
In 1887, Kirtland Cutter opened his solo architectural practice in Spokane, called, interestingly enough, "Kirtland K. Cutter and Company." This lasted until 08/1889, when he formed a partnership with John Poetz, creating the firm, Cutter and Poetz. (See Henry C. Mathews, Kirtland Cutter Architect in the Land of Promise, [Seattle: University of Washington Press, 2007] p. 64.)
Mathews said of this firm: "Cutter remained the dominant partner, dealing with the clients on issues of design, while Poetz concerned himself mainly with practical matters of construction." (See Henry C. Mathews, Kirtland Cutter Architect in the Land of Promise, [Seattle: University of Washington Press, 2007] p. 64.)
This firm had its office in 3 locations between 1889-1893: Washington Building, 100 W 7th in 1889-1890; First National Bank Building, West Riverside Avenue and North Howard Street in 1890; First National Bank Building, 6th floor, 628 7th Avenue in 1892-1893.
The firm dissolved when John Poetz left Spokane, WA, in 1894.
