New Seattle Supersonics owner, Clay Bennett, requested $300 million in public funds (out of $500 million total) to complete a new arena for the National Basketball Association team. In 02/2007, Seattle Supersonics Owner, Oklamhoma City businessman, Clay Bennett, announced plans to build a 20,000-seat, 730,000 square-foot arena on lands then owned by the Boeing Company in Renton, WA. Previous possible sites included areas identified on the east side of King County. Bennett purchased the Supersonics and Storm franchises from an investment group led by Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz in 2006.
