Building History

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finished its work on the Chittenden Locks in 1917, just before the United States' entry into World War I. The locks serve as the last linking point in the passage from Lake Washington through Union Bay, Portage Bay, Salmon Bay, Lake Union, and into Puget Sound.
