The SPL Southwest Branch was dedicated in 06/1961.

The library was enlarged from 8,213-square-feet to 15,000-square-feet in 2005-2006; it closed for renovation 8/6/2005; it was the 22nd of 27 projects funded by $196.4 million Library for All Bond Measure of 1998. The renovation of the Southwest Branch cost $6.25 million. The renovation nearly doubled space to 15,000 square feet, and financed the addition of 19 new computers to make a total of 32.
