This courthouse, one of a large number designed the Supervising Architect of the United States Treasury, James Knox Taylor, remained in 2005, as one of a handful of Beaux-Arts Styled Courts of Appeal left in the U.S.; Taylor originally designed it to accommodate the Ninth Circuit of Appeals and Main Post Office of San Francisco, CA; National Register ID Number: 71000188; GSA Building Number: CA0096ZZ;

An addition was added in 1933; the building was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, and renovations occurred thereafter;
