On 11/06/1962, voters ratified a $792 million bond proposal to start construction of an computerized electric rail system to join various communities around the San Francisco Bay. In 1966, the American Institute of Architects passed a resolution at its 98th Annual Convention, praising the residents of San Francisco for rejecting the use of federal funds to build expressways through historic parts of the city. It also commended the region's plan to establish the Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority.
