Building History

Following World War II, Palo Alto greatly expanded to accommodate families moving to the Santa Clara Valley to work in the developing Silcon Valley technology industry. The presence of Stanford University and its development of the Stanford Industrial Park beginning in 1951, helped to fuel growth of electronics firms in the area. The Van Auken Elementary School served these new residents and their children produced during the Baby Boom.
