Building History
Construction on the SFJAZZ Center began on 05/06/2011, a $64 million project that accommodated SFJAZZ, a non-profit that funded the SFJAZZ Collective, a performing ensemble. The collective and other artists could play in either of the building's two perfomance spaces, the Robert N. Miner Auditorium (seating between 350 and 700) and the Joe Henderson Lab (seating 100). The three-floor, 35,000-square foot SFJAZZ Center also housed the offices of SFJAZZ, the sponsor of the SF Jazz Festival, established in 1983. The SFJAZZ Center had its grand opening ceremonies on 01/22/2013.
Mark Cavagnero served as the architect for the SFJAZZ Center working in coordination with Meyer Sound, the acoustical engineering firm, and sound engineers, BBI Engineering, Incorporated, (under principal Mark Roos and project manager Pete Maiers). Cavagnero also collaborated with the theatrical design firm, Auerbach Pollock Friedlander (Len Auerbach, partner in charge).
