Building History

The nine-unit Capitol Crest Apartments stood on the southwest corner of 17th Avenue and East Union Street. It was completed in 1971. The buildign was owned by James E. Cowden before 1992. On 12/04/1992, Cowden sold the apartment building to John W. and Virginia R. Caunt for $385,000. It changed hands from John to Virginia on 08/21/2020. On 01/25/2021, Terry and Erica Posner, et al., owned the building and they sold it to CCK and STW, LLC, for $2,747,525. The apartment building may have occupied the same site as the William and Sarah Canfield Jewett House at 935 17th Avenue, built in 1901.
