The Jewett House stood at the intersection of 17th Avenue and Union Street in 1901. The address was listed then as 935. It may correspond with the later apartment building located at 1135 17th Avenue.

Building History

An article in the Seattle Daily Times in 10/16/1901, indicated that the residence of the architect William H. Jewett (1861-1905) had been built by the Fehren-Marvin Company. This company was listed in Seattle City Directory, 1901, classified listings as an architectural firm. Jewett, however, worked as an architect in Seattle in 1901, and he and his wife are likely to have had some significant input on its design. The Seattle Daily Times wrote: "On this page are shown half-tone reproductions of houses recently built by the Fehren-Marvin Company for its clients. The residence of William Jewett, on Seventeenth avenue and East Union street, is Pennsylvania colonial in design, which has been well executed, so that the exterior is distinctly noteworthy. This house cost $3,000." (See "Real Estate and Building News: New Houses Illustrated," Seattle Daily Times, 10/16/1901, p. 21.)

Building Notes

Architect's own house.

Demolition
