Building History

This five-floor apartment complex was financed by Securities Mortgage and designed by Seattle architect Blaine McCool (1923-2006). The building was "virtually" complete by 10/1962. (See "Summit Avenue Site Gives Cross-Town View," Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 10/28/1962, p. 34.)

An advertisement in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer indicated that the 34 units of the Dakar Apartments would be open for inspection on 11/11/1962. These apartments consisted of 4 "bachelor," 22 one-bedroom, and 4 two-bedroom units with wall-to-wall carpeting, drapes and disposals. The building also advertised that it had parking and an elevator. (See "Open Today--10 til 6 Dakar Apartments," Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 11/11/1962, p. 34.)

Alteration

Owners of the Dakar Apartments renovated the building's exterior in 2019-2020. Due to its deteriorated condition, the ornamentation on the front facade was removed, and the exterior repainted. Architectural changes were devised and supervised by Evolution Architecture, LLC, of Seattle. Anne Forestieri of Fiore Designs, LLC, composed the color scheme for the Dakar renovation.
