Overview
Designed by Sacramento architectural firm of Starks and Flanders, the Elks Tower usurped the title of Sacramento's tallest building at 226 feet, from the California-Western States Life Insurance Company Building (216 feet), completed in 1925. The Elks skyscraper opened on 06/14/1926, during a 1920s building boom in Downtown Sacramento.
Building History
The commission for this insurance company building would have been given to Leonard F. Starks (1891-1986) before his partnership with Edward Flanders in 1925, and may have entered Starks's previous office of Hemmings and Starks which operated from 1923 until 1924.
