Overview
The San Francisco architectural firm of Coxhead and Coxhead designed this residence for the San Francisco hardware merchant, Andrew S. Carrigan, Sr., his wife and their family. Built around 1892, it supplemented San Francisco city residences owned by the Carrigans first at 2840 Buchanan Street (c. 1900) and, later, at 33 Walnut Street (c. 1910).
Building Notes
The Carrigan Family was listed in the Social Register of California, 1911, (p. 18): The listing began with Andrew Carrigan, Sr., and his wife, Eliza G. Harris. Their family included Mary Carrigan, Andrew's sister, who passed away on 09/27/1910, and children Margaret, (born c. 05/1892 in CA), Andrew, Jr., Edwin H., and Jane. The 1910 US Census also indicated that two servants lived with the family at their San Francisco residence, Fannie W. Dunn (born c. 1871 in IN) and Kesuke Taria (born c. 1889 in Japan) (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1910; Census Place: San Francisco Assembly District 39, San Francisco, California; Roll: T624_100; Page: 1A; Enumeration District: 0210; FHL microfilm: 1374113, accessed 01/22/2018.)
