Saint Thomas More's web site stated of its history: "St. Thomas More Parish was founded in 1936 as a mission of the Cathedral under Archbishop Howard. This new congregation met at the Mt. Zion Congregational Church on the corner of Dosch and Patton Roads. On September 29, 1940, the current church building built by Pietro Belluchi, was blessed. The rectory, parish hall and school were built in 1948. In 1952, the choir loft and south transept were built. St. John Fisher was established in 1958 when St. Thomas More and St. Clare Churches could not handle the growing numbers in Southwest Portland.
