Gilbert Stanley Underwood designed this lodge over looking the Grand Canyon for the National Park Service and the Union Pacific Railroad Company (UPRR); work began on the lodge midyear 1927 and was finished by 06/1928. Despite isolated conditions (the hotel existed 200 miles away from the nearest UPRR track), lodge completion was rapid, finished by a very industrious building crew.
