Building History
This was the second library to serve Aberdeen; the first, a Carnegie-financed building, served the community from 1908-1966. In 1969, the Aberdeen Library joined the Timberland Regional Library Consortium. (See Timberland Regional Library.org, “Aberdeen Timberland Library,” accessed 03/16/2020.)
Building Notes
The exterior design of the Aberdeen Public Library #2 resembled the exterior of the Seattle Public Library, Lake City Branch #2, designed by John Moore Morse (1911-2000) and completed in 1965. Both designs, marked by their use of arches, suggested a debt to Frank Lloyd Wright's V.C. Morris Gift Shop in San Francisco, CA.

Alteration
In 1998, inhabitants of Aberdeen, WA, passed a bond measure that financed renovation of the Aberdeen Library. Work began in early 2000, taking 9 months, and the refurbished facility opened on 10/02/2000. (See Timberland Regional Library.org, "Aberdeen Timberland Library," acceessed 03/16/2020.)
In 2019, Cardinal Architecture PC, based in Seattle, WA, received $20,000 to remodel the Aberdeen library. Local resident Katherine N. Sherk provided the library with $4 million endowment in 2000, and proceeds from this money was used to pay for the remodeling. This endowment stood at $8 million by 2019. According to writer Thorin Sprandel writing in the Daily World.com: "Goals of the project include improvements to lighting, seating and flooring. The interior of the building will be redesigned to meet the current and future needs of the youth area, computer area, digital markerspace and staff workspaces, according to [Head Librarian Stephenie] Reece. The plan will increase the number of meeting rooms and make the library’s spaces more flexible, she said."
