Overview

Seattle architect William R. Grant designed this Aerie for a branch of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1927. Eagles Aerie #172 serving Ballard, then an independent city, was established in 1901.

Building History

The Eagles Aerie #172 of Ballard formed in 1901, and would have had at least two homes before the opening of this grand building in 1927-1928. Its second hall was located on the second floor of the Eagle Block (aka the "Fitzgerald & Hynes Building,") at 5412 Ballard Avenue. It operated at this address from 02/1909 until the late 1920s.

The architectural amibitions of the Ballard Eagles were no doubt enhanced by the completion of Aerie #1's extensive headquarters at 7th Avenue and Union Street in 1924-1925.

Building Notes

The Ballard Eagles Building once housed the Bagdad Theatre which opened on 05/28/1927.
