Building History
Located on the Yellow Jacket Ranch, this two-story house had a V-shaped plan. The cleft of the V looked out over a valley. A large patio and two porches on the ends of the wings provided outdoor living spaces. Amelia Frances Goodrich Jarvie was born 06/30/1881 in Brooklyn, NY, and lived in Montclair, NJ in 1927. She was the niece of James N. Jarvie, who was a very wealthy man. In 1930, Jarvie lived alone with 3 servants in the Montclair house worth $200,000. She was wealthy enough to attend the premiere performance of the Metropolitan Opera in 1932, along with the cream of NY society. She traveled a great deal in the 1920s. Sometime between 1930-1945 she got married to someone named Dyer, and died in San Francisco, CA, on 07/25/1945.
