At his death, Kendall served as President of the firm. According to Kendall's obituary in the Engineering News-Record (ENR), 03/07/2013, over 35 years, KHA "built nearly 70 buildings" for the Houston-based developer Gerald Hines, who erected a number of large-scale projects on the West Coast, including the 101 California Street Office Building in San Francisco (by Johnson-Burgee and KHA), where the Hines West Regional Office was located in 2014. The AIA Houston Chapter mounted an exhibition highlighting KHA's ability to interact constructively with higher-profile architects-of-record called "Collaborations: The Work of Kendall/Heaton Associates," held between 10/03/2013-11/08/2013 at the Architecture Center Houston.
