At his death, Kendall served as President of the firm. According to Kendall's obituary in the Engineering News-Record (ENR), 03/07/2013, over 35 years, KHA "built nearly 70 buildings" for the Houston-based developer Gerald Hines, who erected a number of large-scale projects on the West Coast, including the 101 California Street Office Building in San Francisco (by Johnson-Burgee and KHA), where the Hines West Regional Office was located in 2014. Kendall was described as soft-spoken and collaborative, enabling KHA to collaborate with some of the biggest-name, star architects of the period, including Norman Foster, Cesar Pelli, Rem Koolhaas, Philip Johnson and Ricardo Bofill. The AIA Houston Chapter mounted an exhibition highlighting KHA's ability to interact constructively with higher-profile architects-of-record called "Collaborations: The Work of Kendall/Heaton Associates," held between 10/03/2013-11/08/2013 at the Architecture Center Houston.
