Capitain and Burton was active in Los Angeles in 11/1888. Their office in 1888 was at 13 West 2nd Street. (See Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1888, p. 768.) Frank J. Capitain and James Lee Burton worked separately by 1890.

Burton would later become a partner of the noted architect John Parkinson (1861-1935) during 1894-1895, soon after the latter arrived in Southern California from Seattle, WA.

Capitain would partner with architect John Paul Krempel (1861-1933), c. 1895 and 1896.
