Albert Carey Martin, Sr., operated his own firm during most of the first half of the twentieth century; he was one of the earliest offices to provide architectural and engineering services from the same firm. In 1917, he occupied Office #430 in the Higgins Building, a office tower he designed. He re-incorporated with his sons, Albert Carey, Jr., and J. Edward Martin, in 1945, as A.C.
